Competition Metrics

How results are calculated:

In order to rank our organisations we have carefully considered the fairest method, which is to look at the number of questions answered per student. This is to reflect the huge range in the size of organisations, even within each of the different categories in the CENTURY family.

We calculate the student user base in a way to get a fair balance between those with a wide but less intensive use and those where only a small proportion of students use the platform very extensively. There are many ways to measure usage and you may wish to do it differently for your own competitions.

Percentage ranking: This is a metric we are using to inform organisations of their placing. It is based upon the average questions answered by your user base, compared to others from within your category. We believe it is a more informative metric to help understand your positioning within a larger dataset, making it easier to compare and interpret results.

Overall questions answered: This is the rounded total number of questions answered by students in your organisation within each specified week. This includes all answered questions from within fully completed nuggets only and does not include skipped and is limited to 10 attempts of each individual nugget per student.

Average questions answered: This is calculated by dividing the number of overall questions answered by your user base.

User base: This is based upon the number of active students who have completed a nugget during the competition and the minimum/maximum potential number of students that could access CENTURY.

Category: This is the grouping of organisations according to the number of active students and key stage/organisation type.

We hope you enjoy the competition!
