As part of our ongoing work to better support schools in understanding and monitoring platform engagement, the Teacher Utilisation Report provides daily activity data for teachers and their classes across these key areas of CENTURY:
- Assignments - creating and assigning work to classes
- Page engagement - how teachers are interacting with different areas of the platform
Understanding the Metrics
Active Teachers - teachers who had any activity on the platform
Teachers Setting Work - teachers who created at least one assignment or planner lesson
Departments - the subject department a class belongs to based on the courses assigned to that class
- A class will be labelled as a 'cross-department class' if it contains courses from multiple departments. This would be common with form groups, tutor groups, etc.
- Classes without any courses assigned will be shown as 'No courses assigned'
Year Groups - estimated year group of the class based on the ages of students enrolled in the class
- Note for international schools: The year group calculation is based on UK academic year conventions (31st August year boundary) so may not be accurate and excluded from the report
- This estimation might be less accurate for mixed-age classes (e.g. intervention or SEND classes), classes with very few students, or those where many students have missing/invalid birth dates
Assignments Set - work that has been assigned to students through the Assignments feature, including smart assignments
Diagnostic Assignments Set - assignments containing diagnostic nuggets that have been set to students
Viewed Pages / Dashboards / Markbooks etc. - how many different days that teachers navigated and engaged with the specified pages
- A single page view might count toward multiple categories, e.g. a page may count as both a Dashboard View and an Assignment View if it matches both categories
Time periods - the reports use rolling time windows (e.g. last 7 days / last 28 days), calculated dynamically from the date the report is generated
- Note for international schools: The "Current academic year" time period is calculated from a UK academic year start date (31st August). For international schools with different academic year calendars, this time period may not align with your actual academic year.
FAQs
Why is my teacher data not appearing in the report?
A teacher might appear as inactive if they were active on the platform in general but not with a specific class.
Why are classes with no activity included in the report?
Inactive classes are still included so that utilisation rates can be calculated accurately.
Why do my international school year groups look inaccurate?
The year group prediction uses UK academic year boundaries (31st August). For schools with different academic year calendars, predictions may be systematically off by one year. Validate against your actual class records for the highest accuracy.
What's the difference between 'Active Teachers' and 'Teachers Setting Work'?
'Active Teachers' include any teacher who had any activity on the platform, including just viewing a page. 'Teachers Setting Work' only include those who created assignments or planner lessons, and is a higher bar for engagement.
