Maths Prep - Guardian FAQs

What is Maths Prep?

Learners can answer and show their workings in replica exam questions. The questions are marked as an examiner would mark them and the learner receives feedback on their method. Practice happens in sessions of 5 questions at a time with up to 2 sessions per week.

Which AI is being used?

We are using leading Large Language Models (LLMs) from OpenAI, with additional safeguards we’ve built specifically for this context.

Is it safe?

We’ve taken several deliberate steps to make Maths Prep appropriate for younger learners. Use is limited to 2 sessions (10 questions) per week. Every AI response is visible to you and to our content team. There are no chat or messaging features, and it stays focused on maths. Any concerning messages from your child will be specifically highlighted in your activity page and the AI will not respond to any messages of this nature.

Is it a chatbot?

This is not a chatbot. On Maths Prep, your child will answer maths exam questions, and the AI will mark and give feedback on their workings. Your child has the option to try again if they wish. There is no function to have a back and forth conversation with the AI.

What can I see as a parent?

You will have access to Maths Prep with your own guardian account using your CENTURY username and password. You can try questions without affecting your child’s sessions and you can see all the questions, workings and feedback that your child has had with Maths Prep.

Can the AI get things wrong?

Yes. We've designed and tested a marking framework so the AI applies the same criteria a human examiner would. As with all generative AI, it sometimes produces incorrect responses or marks something wrong. Every interaction is visible to you and we encourage you to flag anything that looks off.

Where does my child’s data go?

The questions, your child’s answers, and the AI’s feedback are processed by our LLM provider for the sole purpose of running the conversation. Nothing is used to train their models. We treat this data the same way as the rest of your child’s CENTURY data — covered by our existing privacy policy and processing agreements.

Can I opt my child out?

Yes, by providing your details on this form: https://forms.gle/9BEJjGjejNRCCVCx9

The link to this form is also available on the platform when you log into your CENTURY guardian account.

You can withdraw consent at any time. It will take us up to three working days to remove the link to Maths Prep from your child’s CENTURY account after opting out.

Does it cost anything?

No. Maths Prep is free for the duration of the pilot which lasts until the end of the academic year.

What happens after the pilot ends?

We’ll write to you in good time before the end of the pilot. Maths Prep may continue free of charge, become a paid add-on, or change in other ways based on what we learn during the pilot. There is no obligation either way and no automatic charge.

How can I see what my child has been doing?

Log in to your guardian account at https://maths-prep.century.tech/ using your regular CENTURY guardian login. You will be able to see every session, every question, and every AI response in chronological order.
