How to set up a class on CENTURY

Modified on Fri, 23 Aug at 10:07 AM

Setting up a class on CENTURY only takes a few minutes using a simple process. Once you have set up a class, you can then assign teachers, students, and courses and get your students started with learning on CENTURY.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Step 1: Creating a class

To create a new class, follow these steps:

  1. Click into the Class Admin tab

  2. Click ‘Create a Class’.

  1. Give the class a name and select ‘Add Class’

  1. You will now be automatically assigned to the class and be able to add other teachers, students and courses.

Step 2: Adding / removing teachers and students

Adding a teacher

If you need to add a teacher to a class, e.g. if you have a teaching assistant or cover teacher, follow the steps below:

  1. In the Teachers section, click ‘Add teacher’

  1. Search for the teacher(s) you wish to add to the class, click the checkbox next to their name and click ‘Add’

Adding an existing student

If you need to add a student to your class who already has a CENTURY account in your organisation, e.g. if there have been class changes, follow these steps. To add a brand new student to the platform, follow the instructions in the next section.

  1. Click ‘Add existing student’ in the Students section

  2. Search for the student(s) you wish to add to the class and click the checkbox, then click ‘Add’

Adding a new student to the platform

Please follow the instructions in this help page to add a new student who doesn’t already exist on the platform to your class.

Removing a teacher or student

To remove a teacher or student from a class, e.g. if there are any class changes, follow these instructions:

  1. In the Teacher or Student sections, click the grey minus button next to the teacher or student you want to remove

  2. Click ‘Delete’ to confirm their removal

Note: Do not delete the class if it is in use, as it will also delete it for any other teachers and students assigned to the class.

Step 3: Assigning / removing courses

To get your students up and running using CENTURY you will need to assign a course to the class. This is an important step, as otherwise students will not have courses to study on CENTURY.

To browse all of CENTURY’s courses or if you are unsure on which course to assign to your students, you can find our guides here.

  1. In the Class Admin tab, click the ‘Assign course’ button in the top right of the page.

  1. A window will open with all of the courses available on CENTURY. You can then select all of the courses you wish to set to the class by clicking on the checkbox next to each course. Here, you can filter by subject, level, or search for a particular course using the search box.

Tip: Click on the blue icon next to each course to view the course content in a separate tab.

  1. Once you have finalised the courses you wish to assign, click ‘Add’

Removing a course

  1. In the Assigned Courses section, click the grey minus button next to the course you want to remove

  2. Click ‘Delete’ to confirm removal

Removing a course will mean the students in that class no longer have access to it. However, it will not delete the data generated on that course, so their data is still accessible in their Dashboards.

Avoiding course clash

Course clash happens when a student has similar courses across different levels assigned to their classes, for example:

  • Primary Mathematics - Year 4

and

  • Primary Mathematics - Year 5

Or

  • Mathematics - Secondary - Foundation

and

  • Mathematics - Secondary - Foundation+

As these courses have some overlap, the same nugget or diagnostic can appear in the student’s Recommended Path. This could confuse students and can affect CENTURY's recommendations.

To avoid course clash, students should only be assigned one course level across all of their classes, e.g. if a student is assigned Mathematics - Secondary - Foundation in one class, this should be the only maths course they have assigned across all of their classes.

If you have a student that should be on a different course level to the rest of their class, we recommend creating a separate class for them and assigning the appropriate course to that class.
