Macmillan Snappy Sounds on CENTURY

Macmillan's DfE-approved synthetic phonics programme, Snappy Sounds, has been integrated with our award-winning platform to bring you the first phonics course on CENTURY. Created by world-class educators, authors, and speech pathologists, Snappy Sounds is designed to simplify and speed up phonics instruction, helping children significantly improve their reading skills.

Student Benefits

  • Learners can access 80 decodable readers and 160 nuggets that teach them to identify and recognise the 44 sounds (phonemes) of English and the combination of letters (graphemes) that represent them, using a systematic approach.

  • Pupils are assessed at the end of each nugget on their ability to identify specific phonemes, their word comprehension, their ability to recognise common exception words, and are given an opportunity to hear and practise blending. They are also given comprehension questions to consider and discuss.

  • The phonics content is globally appropriate, modern and visually engaging for students.

Teacher Benefits

  • Teachers can assign nuggets to students for both in-class or home study. All nuggets are automatically marked and include feedback for pupils.

  • Teachers and parents can track pupil engagement and performance with simple data dashboards that highlight strengths and areas for improvement.

  • The content is designed to be used in collaboration with the Snappy Sounds phonics programme, but can be used to support the understanding of phonics in any classroom.

  • The decodable readers can be used as standalone support to improve reading confidence for children with SEND or EAL.

  • The content can also be used to support reading homework in schools where guardians are not confident reading in English, as well as TAs who are less confident in phonics methodologies. The Read to Me courses have the decodable readers dictated with the text highlighted, making it easy to follow for new learners.
