How to use the maths keyboard on CENTURY

Overview

The Maths keyboard will pop up on the screen in certain questions to help with inputting mathematical functions like fractions or coordinates. 

Note: This is a keyboard with maths symbols - not a calculator. The numbers on the maths keyboard are there to help students to type in their answers.

If you are on a laptop or desktop computer, you can also use your computer keyboard to type into the answer box.

Tip: If you are using CENTURY on a mobile phone or tablet, rotate the screen to landscape mode so you can see all the buttons on the maths keyboard. If you are unable to use the keyboard, read this article for more support.

Changing keyboard formats

Clicking the blue buttons lets you toggle between keyboard formats to type maths symbols or normal text. 

Fractions and mixed numbers

To type a fraction, click the fractions button (outlined in the image), and then type in your answer. Use the arrow keys to go between the numerator and denominator. 

Keyboard shortcut: You can also type a slash ‘/’ in between the numerator and denominator instead of using the fractions button.

Similarly for mixed numbers, click the mixed numbers button (outlined in the image), and input your answer. Use the arrow keys to go between the whole number, numerator and denominator.

Index form answers

To input an index form answer, type in the digit, then click the indices button (outlined in the image) to insert your index number. To get back to writing in non-index form, press the right arrow key.

Percentage / degrees / Pi answers

To input percentages, type in the digits, then click the percentage button (outlined in blue). 

Keyboard shortcut: You can also type ‘percent’ instead of clicking the percentage button and it will automatically convert to a ‘%’ symbol.

To input an answer in degrees, type in the digits, then click the degrees button (outlined in the image).

To input an answer in Pi form, type in the digits, then click on the Pi button (outlined in the image).

Keyboard shortcut: You can also type ‘pi’ instead of selecting the Pi button.

Vectors and Coordinates

To input an answer in coordinate form, click the coordinate button (outlined in the image), and then type in your numbers. Use the arrow keys to change between the first and second numbers.

To input an answer in a vector format, click the vector button (outlined in the image), and then type in your numbers. Use the arrow keys to change between the first and second numbers.
