CSV onboarding for students and teachers

Modified on Thu, 22 Aug at 5:32 PM

Use the CSV onboarding method if you have the required data about your users in advance. Learn more about our other methods of onboarding users to CENTURY here, including on-the-spot onboarding or adding individual students via Class Admin.

To onboard users via CSV file:

  1. Go to Class Admin.

  2. Go to the Onboarding tab.

  1. Click ‘Download CSV template’, then select either ‘CSV Template for Students’ or ‘CSV Template for Teachers’. A CSV template will download to your computer.

  1. For students: Please fill in the template with a row per learner, listing the information as below.

UPN: Include the learner’s student number plus a suffix for your organisation, for example S1324444BBP. If you do not have this information, leave the field blank.

Email: Include the learner’s organisation email address where possible. If unavailable, include a different email address and their organisation email can be added later.

ClassesList the name of the class you would like the learner to be added to.

Note: If you are adding learners to more than one class, please separate each class name with a semicolon (;).

Password: If your organisation email addresses are hosted by Google or Microsoft Office 365, learners will be able to log in using the single sign-on buttons. As a result, there is no need to include a password. Otherwise, list a password with a minimum of 8 characters.

Birth dateUse DD/MM/YYYY format

Optional fields:

Gender: Use F, M or leave blank

Ethnicity: Free text

SEN status: Free text

Pupil premium: Use TRUE or FALSE, or leave blank

EAL status: Use Y or N, or leave blank

  1. For teachers: Please fill in the template with a row per teacher, listing the information as below.

Email: Please use the teacher’s organisation email address, and ensure that it is a unique email.

Class nameList the name of the class you would like the teacher to be added to.

Note: If you are adding learners to more than one class, please separate each class name with a semicolon (;).

Password: If your organisation email addresses are hosted by Google or Microsoft Office 365, teachers will be able to log in using the single sign-on buttons. As a result, there is no need to include a password. Otherwise, list a password with a minimum of 8 characters.

  1. Once the template is complete, upload the file by clicking ‘New Import’ > ‘Import Students CSV’ or ‘Import Teachers CSV’.

  1. Choose the file from your computer and upload. Files will appear as ‘pending’, and will be processed by the team at CENTURY within one working day.

Note: CSV onboarding will overwrite any classes that a student or teacher has been assigned to in a previous CSV upload. As such, you will need to ensure that you include all the new and existing classes that they are assigned to in order to avoid removing them from any classes.
