Quick Start Guide to Automated CSV Onboarding

This article gives a quick summary of the most important changes to CSV onboarding. For a more detailed guide, please see here.

Files will now be uploaded instantly, without the need for processing by CENTURY. Where there are errors, you will be notified immediately with clear instructions
Students can now be given custom tags
Students can now be allocated to year groups
You can choose to send emails to new users
You can choose either to add classes, or to overwrite them
Better auto-generation of usernames

Please ensure you use the new templates provided. The template from the previous system will be rejected.
When first onboarding, please check the defaults carefully. The system now defaults to 'add' classes, rather than overwriting them.

The Username column is optional. Please see below for how they are formulated:

Row contains	What happens to the username
A username value	That exact username is used. Please note if the username already exists, an auto-generated username will be created (firstname.lastname.NNNN)
No username, but an email	The email address becomes the username.
Neither username nor email	Auto-generated as firstname.lastname.NNNN - the lowercased first and last name plus a random number (e.g. mary.jane.84).
A username value on an existing user	The username is never changed.

The Password column is also optional, and behaves differently for new versus existing users:

Situation	What happens to the password
New user, no password in the row	A secure password is auto-generated.
New user, password supplied in CSV	The supplied password is used (must meet the 8-36 character rule above).
Existing user (any update)	The password is never changed - even if the row has a Password column with a value in it.
