What is Smart IA?

Smart IA is CENTURY's functional skills Initial Assessment for Maths, English and Digital Skills with the following assessment options for your learners:

*If you choose not to use CENTURY’s Writing Initial Assessment, we recommend setting an English writing piece as a separate task after the English IA.

Key information on Smart IA

  • Adaptive tests designed to maximise the accuracy of the result, whilst keeping testing time to around 30 minutes per assessment (depending on the learner)

  • Extremely simple to set assessments for large cohorts of learners in just a few steps

  • Intuitive results across five levels in English and Maths and two levels in Digital Skills give you a precise measure of ability and a readiness score within that level

  • Thoughtfully-designed experience for learners with an assessment interface which prioritises accessibility and simplicity for those with limited IT skills

  • Downloadable results and certificates which include the learner’s details, assessment name, assessment class, suggested level and sub-level, and assessment completion date

As always, please reach out to your CENTURY Account Manager or support@century.tech for support throughout the implementation process.

How the assessments work

Each assessment is designed to take 20-30 minutes (depending on the learner).

The assessments are adaptive to provide a personalised experience for each learner. All learners will complete 16-24 questions in total, dependent on their performance. As learners work through the assessment(s), CENTURY will adapt to ensure that the question level is suitable to their needs. We believe that this will not only prevent the learner from becoming overwhelmed, but also aid in the full completion of the assessment.

Once learners have been onboarded to CENTURY in their assessment cohorts with the assessments activated, they will find their assessment(s) in their learning pathway ready to complete.

Upon completion, results will be displayed in the Assessments tab for staff to review. These resultsalong with the date of completion, working-towards level and sub-level, can all be downloaded from the platform, alongside a certificate of completion for your learners.

Learners will need a calculator, dictionary, pen and paper to complete both assessments.
