Using CENTURY to support SEN learners

There are various ways you can use CENTURY to support SEN learners. Some usage models that might work for you include:

Supported learning

If you have any learners who require extra support in your class, you can set them a different set of nuggets to work through via Assignments. To do so, you will need to create a new class for them in CENTURY in order to assign them work separate from the rest of the class.

You can also let the learners know which nuggets to work through and they can search for them in their My Courses tab with the help of a teacher or TA. 

Work through CENTURY’s recommendations independently

Learners can view their own Learner Dashboard and review their strengths and areas for improvement, as well as their Focus and Stretch recommendations. You can then discuss any specific areas they should work on, and they can click on the nugget recommendations within their Dashboard to start learning immediately. 

Subtitles on learning material

All learning videos on CENTURY now have subtitles to support student learning. Learn more about enabling subtitles here.

Individual work space

CENTURY can be used in a set space within the school to enable any learners who struggle in a larger classroom.

Colour overlay

Learners can apply colour overlays on CENTURY to enable them to better see the words on screen. Learn how to activate colour overlays here.

Read Aloud

We recommend Read Aloud for any learners with visual impairments or struggle with reading.

Working below age related expectations

Learners who are working significantly below their age related expectations may need their own independent class on CENTURY. This is to ensure that they are accessing course material relevant to them which will likely be separate from the course assigned to the whole class.
